JOHN DUNCAN McLAREN
Portrait and Figure Artist

I've been painting most of my life; all sorts of mediums - oil, watercolor, acrylic, pencil, and pastel. Currently I am concentrating mostly on watercolor in order to free up my style.  People and their lives have always been the subject matter that inspired me the most. A considerable period of my life spent sailing-- both racing and live-aboard cruising-- is reflected in some of my art as well.

In my personal life, I am very much a recluse, avoiding most social interactions, preferring to paint or work in my shop.  Fortunately for me, my wife Cindy handles all the details of everyday life for me - keeps me alive, in contact, and does most of my framing.  She built this web site. Though I use the word artist, I still don't consider myself one.  I think of myself as a 'draftsman striving to be an artist'.
